Creating a vibrant infill development in the heart of downtown Greenville, SC, the developer Centennial American Properties collaborated with NELSON worldwide to design the mixed-use space Camperdown on a 4.5-acre site. The development features 17-tower office tower, as well as a 10-story multi-family building and a 4-story office building. Also included was the development of a community gathering area surrounded by retail, restaurants, and bars.
In creating a mixed-use space with an open-air plaza, an inward-facing communal area was designed to maximize the efficient use of the site. GuildWorks was engaged to integrate an architectural fabric structure, creating a sense of connectedness between the buildings. By leveraging mostly building anchors as attachment points for the cable array, the fabric installation requires only a few ground poles and maintains an elegant design. During the day, the fabrics provide shade for shoppers, and is illuminating the space at night. Camperdown Plaza has since become a vibrant gathering place for tenants and visitors alike, hosting frequent events, markets, and concerts.
